The winner of the Postsecondary Educator of the Year award goes to Chef Nannette Méndez, assistant professor at The José A. Tony Santana International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts located in Puerto Rico. Chef Méndez has taught classes at the school for nearly 11 years. Her community service work is outstanding. She has organized and participated in multiple projects, such as providing workshops for women living in a shelter transition home, distributing meals to hundreds of people in a town devastated by Hurricane Maria, and the yearly Gingerbread House Project for the Puerto Rico Governor’s Mansion, where she and her students create gingerbread houses for display at the residence. As an integral part of the Student Trip Committee, Chef Méndez organizes student trips to Mexico and Peru, taking her students and teaching expertise outside of the classroom.
