Lessons, quizzes and more on disposable foodservice packaging and how such products impact our natural resources and daily lives.

The Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI) continues to offers its popular teachers kit, “Single-Use Foodservice Packaging Facts and Fun,” available online at www.fpi.org/dms/dm_browse.asp?pid=96. This kit provides a comprehensive look at single-use foodservice packaging and its history and benefits.

“Environmental issues are a hot topic and can sometimes be emotional,” says FPI President John R. Burke. “It’s a subject that can be very near and dear to students, as they often use these products on a day-to-day basis in the school cafeteria. In our kit, we present the scientific facts as it relates to single-use foodservice packaging.”

FPI designed a curriculum that presents factual information about the environment, single-use foodservice products and how those products affect our natural resources and our daily lives. The curriculum also includes activities and quizzes to enhance students’ learning experience. Most of the information contained in this curriculum was derived from studies conducted by objective third parties cited throughout.

The teacher’s kit consists of seven lessons, a glossary and bibliography. While the teachers kit is posed for middle-school students in environmental science classes, the information has meaningful application to students of any age, and particularly high-school students enrolled in culinary arts.
