Sullivan University Students, Alumni and Faculty Take on Olympic-Size Catering Job at the 2010 Winter Games

Following the success of Sullivan University’s culinary team that traveled to Beijing to cook at the 2008 Olympic Games, the school’s National Center for Hospitality Studies (NCHS) based in Louisville, Ky., is proud to announce that it will send another group of students, alumni and faculty to cook for the athletes at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The group, consisting of one chef instructor, three students and three alumni, will be part of the team providing food service at the two USA Houses, the hospitality centers for the U.S. Olympic Committee, sponsors, athletes and guests.

The opportunity for Sullivan University’s NCHS representatives to cook at the Olympics was established by chef Kimberley Jones, CPCE, CEC, NCHS professional catering chair, who is a member of the board of the International Caterers’ Association. Through her industry connections she established collaboration with Frank Puleo, president of Framboise Catering, who has an ongoing relationship with the U.S. Olympic Committee. Framboise Catering was so pleased with Sullivan University students and faculty during the 2008 Olympics that they invited several of them to return to the task for the 2010 Winter Games.

Sullivan University representatives traveling to the Winter Olympics include Becky Woehrle, CWPC, baking and pastry instructor at the Louisville campus; students Jose Ajkay, Suzanne Bush and April Gregory; and alumni Noel Bilbro, Rachelle Hyder and Brigitte Nguyen. Bilbro, Gregory, Hyder, Nguyen and Woehrle were also part of the team that catered at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The group departs for Vancouver in February.
