CHRIE Award Recognizes Denver Associate Professor

Chef Jackson Lamb earns prestigious award for curriculum development and student study abroad trip.

news1 sept16Associate Professor of Hospitality, Tourism and Events Jackson Lamb received the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education’s (CHRIE) Chef Herman Breithaupt Award this past August.

The Chef Herman Breithaupt Award recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions to foodservice education by a chef and/or educator through demonstration of high professionalism, a strong commitment to hospitality education, and a record of contributions to International CHRIE and the industry.

The Metropolitan State University (MSU) of Denver educator was recognized for his innovation in teaching and curriculum development. At MSU Denver, Lamb developed the new urban agriculture minor and certificate program in the Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Events. He also helped develop a dual-enrollment system through the National Restaurant Association’s ProStart high school program, where now over 200 Colorado high school students are receiving six college credit hours for the two-year Level One and Level Two program. Additionally, Lamb created opportunities for student and teacher exchanges, including an upcoming study abroad trip for students in 2017, through his repeated trips to two Mexican culinary schools in Oaxaca and Puerto Escondido.
